How DVA funding works
How DVA funding for home help works
Plain answers to the questions veterans and their families ask us, each checked against DVA's own pages.
Veteran Home Help is an independent private business. We are not part of, endorsed by or acting for the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) or any government agency. DVA decides what you are approved for.

How does DVA funding for home help work?
DVA can pay for help at home through household services: cleaning, laundry, ironing, gutter and solar panel cleaning and more, for veterans who can't manage those tasks because of an accepted service-related injury or condition. You apply to DVA, DVA assesses what you need, and its approval letter lists each service you can have, how many a year and the maximum DVA pays for each, for a set period. In 2026, DVA's standard maximum rate is $79.90 an hour including GST, and from 1 July 2026 DVA can pay up to $633.47 a week for all your household services. You choose who provides them. Once DVA has approved your services, a provider such as the Veteran Home Help team books each one as your letter lists it and invoices DVA, and you pay anything above your approved amount or the weekly limit. DVA also runs a separate program, Veterans' Home Care, which works differently. The pages below explain each step in plain words, with a link to DVA's own page for every fact.
The process in four steps
From your claim to your first visit.
You apply to DVA
With form D9319, yourself or through someone you nominate.
DVA assesses and decides
Usually with an occupational therapist DVA arranges; a DVA delegate decides.
Your approval letter
It lists each service, how many a year and the maximum cost of each.
You send us two documents
We book each service as your letter lists it and invoice DVA.
