Questions about DVA cleaning and home help

Short, plain answers, each linking to more detail.

Veteran Home Help is an independent private business. We are not part of, endorsed by or acting for the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) or any government agency. DVA decides what you are approved for.

The short version

DVA can pay for cleaning and home help through household services, for veterans who can't manage household tasks because of an accepted service-related injury or condition. You apply to DVA, or someone you nominate does; a cleaning business can't lodge the claim, and we don't. DVA's approval lists each service you can have, how many a year and the maximum cost of each. In 2026, DVA's standard maximum rate is $79.90 an hour including GST, and DVA can pay up to $633.47 a week for all your household services together. Once you're approved, you email us your approval letter and the one-page supplier sheet, we book each service as your letter lists it, and we invoice DVA. Anything above your approved amount or the weekly limit is yours to pay, and we tell you before we book. We cover Mandurah to Two Rocks and reply within 24 hours, Monday to Friday. The detailed answers are below, grouped by topic.

DVA funding and approvals

Do you handle the paperwork?

Once DVA has approved your services, we handle the invoicing with DVA. You send us your approval letter and the one-page supplier sheet, and we invoice DVA for the services we deliver. We don't lodge DVA claims: you, or someone you nominate, apply to DVA.

Do you lodge DVA claims for veterans?

No. You lodge your household services claim with DVA, or someone you nominate does, using form D9319. Ex-service organisation advocates can help, and DVA says they don't charge for this. We start once DVA has approved your services.

What do I need before you can start?

A DVA household services approval. Once you have it, email us two documents after we've spoken: your approval letter and the one-page supplier information sheet with your Transaction Reference Number (TRN). Please don't send them through the website form.

Does DVA pay for house cleaning?

It can. DVA pays for house cleaning if your household services approval lists it. Household services are for veterans who can't manage household tasks because of an accepted service-related condition. Your approval sets how many cleans a year and the maximum DVA pays for each.

Do I have to pay anything?

You pay anything above your approved amount per service, and anything above DVA's weekly limit of $633.47 (from 1 July 2026). DVA pays for approved services up to those limits. We check your approval first and tell you upfront if any part of a job is above it.

Does a Gold Card mean DVA pays for a cleaner?

Not on its own. A Gold Card lets you be assessed for Veterans' Home Care, which has a small co-payment. Household services, where you choose your provider, depend on an accepted service-related condition and DVA's assessment. DVA decides what you're approved for.

Can I choose my own cleaner under DVA?

Under household services, yes: DVA says you choose the provider and check they're suitable. Under Veterans' Home Care, DVA allocates a contracted provider. If your approval is for household services, you can choose the Veteran Home Help team.

Our services

Can one business do my cleaning, windows, gutters and solar?

Yes. The Veteran Home Help team arranges house cleaning, ironing, laundry, window cleaning, solar panel cleaning and gutter cleaning from Mandurah to Two Rocks. Each service is booked as your DVA approval lists it, so you have one team to call for all of them.

My home is large. Will my approval cover it?

Often it will, but a larger home can take longer than your approved amount per service covers. We look at your approval and your home before booking. If the job needs more, we tell you upfront, and you choose a visit within your approval or a top-up for the difference.

Do you clean two-storey homes?

Window, gutter and solar panel cleaning are for single-storey homes only. House cleaning, ironing and laundry are inside your home, so the number of storeys doesn't matter for those.
